About the Event

In response to the 2019 Oklahoma spring flooding and severe storms, Crisis Care Ministries offers training training in practical skills so that local community leaders, through their day-to-day interactions with their disaster-affected community, can more affectively assist with recovery. This Training Academy, offered at no cost, offers separate, distinct training modules so that participants can customize their training experience.

  • Psychological First Aid +Plus

    March 25, 2020, 8:30 am - 5 pm PFA is an evidence-informed modular approach designed to reduce distress caused by traumatic events and to foster short-and long-term function and coping. This course includes the standard PFA curriculum plus a separate module with Disaster 101 and info for faith leaders. NOTE: This course will be taught using the free PFA smartphone app! Please download the app at https:///www.nctsn.org/resources/pfa-mobile prior to the training.

  • QPR- March 26 (8:30 - 10 AM)

    QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer — the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help.

  • Intermed. DESC (Mar. 26 10 am)

    "Intermediate Disaster Emotional and Spiritual Care" (March 26, 10 am - 2:30 pm) includes practical information and ideas to help those facing the unique emotional and spiritual challenges that accompany disasters in long-term recovery. Content includes the long-term stages of trauma recovery, religious and cultural competence, and additional skills for personal resiliency. Note: Psychological First Aid is pre-requisite for this training.

  • Disaster LTRG ESC (3-26, 2:45)

    Disaster Long-Term Recovery Group Emotional and Spiritual Care Leadership (Thursday, March 26, 2020, 2:45 PM - 5:00 PM) is designed for designated long-term recovery group “thought leaders” in disaster-related emotional and spiritual care. Attendees will learn best practices in leading their long-term recovery group’s emotional and spiritual care response including stages of trauma recovery, national standards for care, practical resources for crisis referrals. PFA is prerequisite.
